Module 11

All paintings above are by Clyfford Still are titled “Gift of the artist” and were created in 1964.They were all created with oil paints on canvas with ceiling light to bring out the colors while they are placed bare with no frame on white walls separate from other paintings from different collections.

Each painting is said to be an episode in a personal history, and an entry in a journal. All of Still’s paintings were in close proximity of each other in the museum because he believed that his art should not be separated from one another or exhibited with the work of other artists because he felt they could only be understood as part of a whole—the whole being the evolution of his entire life's work.

The paintings look very similar with colors and style but they all have a different meaning behind them and the meanings were unavailable. A viewer can stand back from Still’s paintings and see these similarities without moving very far or much movement of their body.
